About
We built the tool we wished existed
WERQ Hub is a project of WERQ Together, a Portland-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Every Journey in the library started as something we had to figure out the first time, the hard way, with a real person counting on us.
The work that came first
Since 2022, WERQ Together has helped 80+ trans people relocate to safer states. Every relocation is a months-long coordination across housing, healthcare, document changes, legal referrals, and the human work of getting someone settled when they’ve had to leave home.
We kept finding the same gap: each new navigator started from scratch. The phone numbers that worked, the deadlines that mattered, the contacts at partner orgs who said yes — none of it was written down. It lived in someone’s head until they burned out and left, and then it was gone.
What WERQ Hub is
WERQ Hub is the place that knowledge goes. Every Journey is a sequence that already worked — for a real peer, with real resources, in a real situation. When the next navigator opens it, they’re not starting from scratch. They’re starting from where the last person ended.
The library is shared across orgs that join the network. When you add what you learn, it goes into the library for every navigator who comes after you. The thing we’ve been doing informally for three years, we’re now infrastructure for.
Why a nonprofit built this
A VC-backed startup would optimize the library for growth. We’re a nonprofit that believes community knowledge belongs to the community — open, accessible, and built with the people who use it. The tool is built on a model that puts the people who use it in charge of how it grows.
Who’s behind this
WERQ Together is led by a small team of trans organizers, navigators, and technologists who have been doing this work for years. The Hub is built by people who actually use it.
